케어는 되도록이면 순혈종을 구조하지는 않습니다. 누구든, 어떤 단체든 소위 품종견은 케어가 아니라도 앞 다투어 구조하기 때문입니다. 그러나 극악한 환경 속에서 학대가 명백할 때는 구분 없이 구조합니다.
뚱이는 말라뮤트, 허쉬는 허스키 종의 대형견입니다.
대전의 한 변종 펫샵에서, 좁은 켄넬과 오물이 가득쌓인 방안에서 번갈아 감금되며 학대 받은 아이들입니다.
원래 반려인이 있었던 아이들입니다. 하지만 변종 펫샵에 돈을 주고 버리고 간 것입니다. 알아서 돌보라고.... 하지만 일시적인 돈을 받고 평생 끝까지 그 동물을 책임져 주는 곳이 아니었습니다. 영리기업이기 때문입니다. 결국 개들은 죽어도 좋기 때문에, 아니 죽는 것이 더 낫기 때문에 업체에서는 개들의 싸움을 유도하곤 했고 질병을 방치했습니다.
한 외국인 활동가가 발견하고 절박하게 요청한 아이들. 그렇게 뚱이와 허쉬는 구조되어 RUN 으로 왔고 활동가들과 봉사자들은 뚱이와 허쉬의 매력에 흠뻑 빠졌습니다.
초긍정 마인드와 언제나 해피한 성격의 소유자들. 두 녀석들은 어떤 아이들과도 잘 어울렸고, 소심한 녀석들도 허쉬와 뚱이의 발랄함에 함께 변화되어 갔습니다.
두 녀석이 며칠 전 독일로 입양을 갔습니다. RUN의 활동가들은 새벽 비행기 시간에 맞춰 잠도 못 자고 배웅을 나갔습니다. 독일에 가서 예쁨 받으라고 두툼한 독일국기 패딩도 활동가들이 사 입혔지요.
두 녀석의 빈자리가 RUN에, 그리고 우리 마음에 너무도 큽니다. 우리가 보호단체가 아니었다면, 절대로 입양 보내고 싶지 않았을 거예요. ????

Generally speaking, we do not rescue purebred dogs, unless there is obvious abuse or danger, because purebred dogs are so popular that they will attract every rescue group and activist anyway and we prefer to focus on rescuing the less-favored breeds. However, we rescued Hershey, a purebred Siberian Husky, and Gomtaeng, a purebred Malamute, from a fake pet store in Daejeon because they were living miserable lives under dangerous and squalid conditions.
They, too, once had owners. They were abandoned to the fake pet store, which disguised itself as a shelter, for some money. The fake pet store was more of a profit-making enterprise than a responsible shelter, and they never cared if dogs trapped in a cramped space were getting ill or attacking each other to death.
After a foreign activist discovered and reported it to us, Hershey and Gomtaeng were rescued by us and protected at Run. And we found out that both of them were the happiest dogs with positive personalities; they were friendly to every dog around them, and their brightness affected timid dogs to gain more confidence.
A few days ago, Hershey and Gomtaeng went to Germany for adoption. We feel a sense of emptiness from their absence, for we would never want to send them for adoption if we weren’t a rescue group. Please pray for the bright future of Hershey and Gomtaeng, who truly were rays of sunshine for everyone around them.
