Korea are called by the name “Madang-gae,” literally translated as “yard dog.” However, these yard dogs are far from being companion animals. These creatures spend their entire lives tethered to trees or doghouses, living in deplorable conditions, used primarily for disposing of leftovers, and often left to die in solitude, or worse, sold into an uncertain future. The fate that awaits them requires little elaboration. Though we wish we could rescue all these dogs and secure them loving homes, the current resources of animal rights organizations are stretched thin, barely managing the immediate emergencies involving abused animals. Our hope is to see a world where the term "yard dog" vanishes and all dogs live as cherished pets. However, realizing this vision demands steadfast commitment and time. The pressing task is to halt the unchecked growth of the yard dog population. Through extensive sterilization programs, we could manage these numbers and break the relentless cycle of neglect, sale, and tragic endings. We encourage you to advocate for sterilization surgeries, ensuring these dogs in your locality do not reproduce unchecked.
