케어에는 800여명의 동물들이 보호되고 있습니다. 케어가 구조하는 동물들의 기준은 위급성 즉 ‘고통’입니다.
주인에게서 학대를 당하는 피학대동물, 산업과 오락으로 고통을 겪으며 죽어가는 동물들이 구조 대상이 됩니다. 상황이 이러하다 보니 사회성이 없고 트라우마가 남은 동물들이 많습니다. 또 예쁜 동물들을 선별해 구조하지 않기에 덩치도 크고 입양 순위에서조차 밀리는 동물들이 대부분입니다.
몸무게가 35키로가 넘어가기 시작하면 해외 입양도 어렵습니다. 이동봉사자를 통해 가지 못하고 카고 운송으로 가야 하는데 이 비용만 4~500만원 또는 초대형 누렁이들의 경우 7~800만원이 들기도 합니다. 결국 입양 갈 비용이 없어 그대로 보호소에 남아야 합니다.
그러나 구조된 후 시간이 지나면 기억에서 잊혀져, 필요한 경우에도 모금을 하지 못하고 케어의 적은 회비로 어렵게 충당해 왔습니다. 요즘은 보호소에서 10년, 15년이 넘어 자연사하는 동물들이 많아지고 있습니다. 또 아직 어리지만 사회성이 없어 어쩌면 보호소가 평생 집일 수밖에 없는 녀석들도 많습니다.

Care has been taking care of 800 rescue dogs, many of which have suffered from abuse, neglect, and abandonment. When it comes to rescuing animals, our standard is based on whether it is experiencing extreme suffering and has an urgent need for intervention. We do not prioritize an animal's appearance or adoptability, and as a result, many of our rescue dogs are never easy to send for adoption. Many of them have had difficult experiences that may have led to trauma, making them particularly challenging to train or socialize. Moreover, they are generally less attractive and too large for the eyes of many Korean dog lovers, making it nearly impossible to find them a suitable home in Korea. Finding them adoptive families abroad is also a huge challenge, as many of our larger dogs weigh over 45 kg, which makes it impossible to transport them by carriers; we must use cargo transportation, and it costs us around 7 to 8 million won. And regrettably, those who fail to raise funds are more likely to remain in the shelter for the rest of their lives.
Over time, it becomes increasingly difficult to raise funds for these rescue dogs. As the memory of their stories fades, the possibility of finding them a forever home overseas dwindles. While some of these dogs are small and young, many carry deep-seated trauma and become hard to socialize, leaving them stranded in shelters for the rest of their lives.
Despite these challenges, we remain committed to protecting these dogs, the ones that may have faded from your memories, and the ones that are losing their opportunities to find loving homes.
