문도 없는 쓰레기 장에 갇혀 8년을 살던 개, 1만평 저택으로 입양 가다 > 보호 & 입양활동

“꽉 막힌 쓰레기장에서 아무도 없이 홀로 보낸 8년, 오로라. 뉴욕의 1만평 대저택으로 입양가다.”

문도 달지 않은 쓰레기장에 어린 오로라를 넣어버린 주인. 그 후 단 한 번도 사람의 손길은 없었습니다. 문이 없으니 아무도 들어가지 않았던 것입니다. 철망 아래로 들이밀어 넣어 주는 음식은 먹다 남은 매운 고추 등이 들어간 음식물 쓰레기. 구조하기 몇 년 전에 로드뷰에 찍힌 사진에도 오로라는 그 자리 그대로. 망부석처럼 앉아 있었습니다. 

그렇게 8년... 주인은 8년 됐다는 말을 스스럼없이 내뱉었고 오로라를 달라는 케어의 이야기에 애물단지 쓰레기 치우듯 흔쾌히 승낙했습니다. 

넓은 RUN 의 마당에 온 오로라는 정신없이 뛰었습니다. 8년간 그 자리 그대로 고정된 삶에서 벗어나 생애 처음으로 뛰어 본 것이었습니다. 활동가들이 좋아 달려오다가도 한 번도 사람과의 스킨십은 해 본 적 없던 오로라는 막상 달려와서는 무엇을 해야 할지 몰라 했습니다. 그렇게 케어 품에 오게 된 가엾은 오로라에게 케어는 정말 좋은 가족을 찾아주고 싶었습니다. 

“ 나이 많은 구조견을 원합니다. 집은 1만 평이예요...”

그 긴 긴 시간을 고독과 고통과 굶주림을 견뎌낸 오로라에게 마치 보상이라도 주려는 듯 하늘에서 큰 선물을 보냈습니다. 뉴욕 1만평의 대저택 입양자가 나타난 것입니다. 

오로라가 우릴 기억하지 않아도 좋습니다. 아니, 우리에 대한 기억도, 고독했던 이곳에서의 기억도 모두 잊었으면 좋겠습니다. 이지금 그대로 행복함만 만끽하며 남은 시간 건강하게 오래 살다 가 주었으면 좋겠습니다.

Aurora had spent 8 years in a garbage dump without an exit. He never had any interaction with people, for nobody could have imagined that there is a dog inside such a place. Nor did he have any experience of walking on flat ground, let alone running freely on a field. The shape of his front legs had slowly deformed because of his 8 years of ascending and descending the heap of trash. He survived by eating food waste that had been pushed in under the wire net. The image of his lonesome life was captured by the Street View that was taken a few years before he was rescued. 

When we first brought Aurora to Run, there were so many new things he had to learn and experience. For the first time in his life, he could run on the field freely, and it quickly became his favorite thing. Aurora always came running hastily whenever his name was called, as if he was grateful for the people who were teaching him new things, but he was still not sure of what to do in front of them. We truly wished to find this poor dog a good loving family. 

And recently we received a contact. Someone from New York, who owns a sprawling estate with over 8 acres of verdant land, was looking for an “old rescue dog.” Just like that, Aurora found his new loving family. We only wish him to leave all the atrocious memories behind and be happy.
