[긴급모금] 사우나처럼 변해가던 쇼윈도우 속 강아지들 > 조사 & 구조활동

-동물병원 방치동물 구조•치료 프로젝트-



아무도 관심없었습니다. 개를 판매하는 곳들은 대부분 같습니다. 쇼 윈도우에 진열합니다. 피할 수 없는 직사광선, 소음, 내부 조명, 그리고 온도 등이 동물에게 적절하지 않고 때로 고통을 심하게 유발합니다.

그러나 동물보호법으로 제대로 보호받지 못합니다. 동물보호법에서 정한 기준은 동물에게 적정하지 않고 이조차 위반해도 지자체에서는 제대로 제재하지 않기 때문입니다. 동물을 보호하지 못하는 동물보호법으로 인해 번식장에서 태어나 판매되는 개들은 판매 과정에서 고통을 겪을 수밖에 없습니다.

케어는 모 동물병원에 매우 큰 몸집의 허스키가 4년간 철장에 갇혀 있다는 제보를 받고 문제의 동물병원을 방문하였다가 쇼윈도우에 진열된, 상품처럼 취급되는 아기 강아지들을 발견했습니다. 영상을 보시면 아기 강아지들은 답답한 듯 헉헉대며 좁은 유리 틈으로 몰려 혀를 쭉 빼물고 힘들어하고 있습니다. 쇼윈도우 안에 가득찬 직사광선 때문이었습니다. 밖의 기온은 아직 겨울이었으나 직사광선으로 인해 쇼윈도안의 공기는 사우나 같은 느낌이었습니다. 문을 열자 뜨거운 공기가 훅 하고 나왔습니다.

패드는 제대로 갈아주지 않아 소변이 뭉쳐 솜처럼 부풀어 있습니다. 활동가들이 패드를 갈아주고 밖의 창을 패드로나마 가려주자 그제야 강아지들이 활기 있게 움직입니다. 무료할 것 같아 동물병원에서 판매하는 장난감들을 활동가들이 구입해 넣어 주자 매우 좋아하며 가지고 놀았습니다. 이렇듯 환경을 조금만 바꾸어 주어도 동물의 고통은 줄어들 수 있습니다.

케어는 어린 강아지들과 조금 더 자라서 판매되지 않는 4-5개월 령의 강아지들을 모두 포기 받아 구조하였습니다. 동물병원이 내부 문제를 더 언급하는 것에 매우 예민해 있습니다. 그러나 구조 당시의 동물 상태를 알리는 것은 동물보호라는 공공의 이익을 위해 당연합니다. 해당 동물병원이, 그리고 다른 동물병원도, 적어도 병원에서만큼은 더 이상 동물판매를 하지 않기를 바랍니다.

오늘 낮 2시 43분 기준으로 동물병원 방치동물 구조 치료 프로젝트에 모금된 금액은 180여만원입니다. 많이 부족합니다. 9명의 동물들을 치료하고 보호하고 입양 보내야 합니다. 소액 릴레이로도 동참해 주시길 부탁드립니다. (목표금액 900만원 : 현재금액 180여만원)

​In many places, animals are treated as commodities and kept in conditions that are far from suitable for their well-being. One such place is the pet store where puppies are sold in window displays. The inappropriate conditions in these pet stores with window displays, which include direct sunlight, noise, internal lighting, and temperature, are not adequately protected by animal protection laws. As a result, animals are subjected to tremendous stress and suffering. 

Care recently received a report about a husky that had been kept in a cage for four years at a veterinary clinic. When we went to rescue the husky, we found baby puppies on display in a window, treated like commodities. As shown in the accompanying video, the puppies were panting in frustration and crowded into a narrow gap of glass due to the direct sunlight. Inside the window, the air was hot and stuffy, making it even more difficult for the animals to cope.

Even the pee pads hadn't been changed properly. As soon as we changed their soiled pee pads and used pads to block the direct sunlight from the outside windows, the puppies became far more active. By purchasing some toys and placing them in the window, we were able to give the puppies some much-needed entertainment and comfort. Small changes to the environment like this can go a long way in reducing animal suffering.

Care managed to persuade the vet to surrender young puppies and 4-5 month old puppies, and they were rescued. The clinic is very sensitive about us commenting publicly on these issues, but it is in the public interest to publicize the condition of the animals at the time of rescue. We hope that in the future, there will be no more animal sales, at least not at the clinic.

As of 2:43 pm today, we have raised $1.8 million for the hospital's neglected animal rescue treatment project. This amount is far from enough to treat, care for, and adopt out the 9 animals we rescued. We are urging everyone to join us with a small donation to help reach our goal of 9 million won.
